Barack Obama marks the Indian Festival Diwali

Barack Obama became the first president of the United States to personally participate in a ceremony at the White House for the festival of lights, lighting a “diya” oil lamp in the executive mansion and bowing respectfully before a Hindu priest. The ceremony took place on October 14, 2009.
